A LATE SUMMER PRE-WEDDING SHOOT IN THE PEAK DISTRICT

Rachel and Adam chose summer for their pre-wedding shoot, ahead of their spring wedding the following year

Our beautiful Peak District provided a glorious backdrop to a stunningly romantic set of pre-wedding photos for Rachel & Adam’s dreamy summer evening engagement shoot.

Rachel & Adam’s shoot was one of the first pre-wedding shoots were able to do in 2020 after coming out of full lockdown. It was SO wonderful to be out photographing our couples again; we really do enjoy spending time with our couples on pre-wedding photoshoots!

On the day of the photoshoot we were treated to lovely warm sunshine in the afternoon. Believe it or not, it can be difficult to shoot in these conditions as the light can be very contrasty on a bright day (creating very bright areas and very dark areas), as well as green tints on skin (a reflection of the green from trees and grass), but we look for ways to minimise this, and sometimes it can produce beautifully dramatic images anyway! We loved how the sun was tinging the grass in these images with a lovely golden glow.

We know that Rachel & Adam are fans of black & white (us too!) - we always deliver a set of black & white images as well as colour. This applies to our wedding photography as well as pre-wedding photoshoots.

A pre-wedding photoshoot benefits greatly from using two or three different locations to offer some variation, and we’re always happy to advise our couples on locations to get the best out of their engagement shoot. We’re a very outdoorsy couple, and experienced hikers, so we know a lot of amazing spots!

After this first set of images, we took Rachel & Adam for a quick pit-stop at a local pub for socially distanced drink, and carried on to our second location.

Our second Peak District photoshoot location provided beautiful vistas of the surrounding countryside and was visually very distinct from the first location, giving Rachel & Adam’s set of photos some lovely variety.

There was a downside on this particular day unfortunately, as the local population of flying ants had chosen that particular evening to hatch out, and poor Rachel & Adam were bombarded by swarms of them! They were true troopers though, and didn’t let the irritating little blighters distract them from enjoying their shoot, but we did have a crazy amount of spots to retouch out of some of the photos!

Wherever possible, we always time pre-wedding shoots to end in that last hour before sunset. This gives us the time to spend with our couples in the two or three hours beforehand ensuring that they’re really relaxing into being photographed before the best light of the day arrives.

‘Golden hour’ on this evening did not disappoint! As the sun got lower it created an absolutely dreamy glow. At this point in the evening we were actually walking back to the cars - the flying ants had got a bit too much! - but the gorgeous light was just too good not to take advantage and grab some closing shots - and thank goodness we did as they’re up there with the best from the day; we’ll never let an opportunity pass by if we think we can create something amazing for our couples :)

We are absolutely in love with this beautiful set of photos from Rachel & Adam’s Peak District pre-wedding shoot, and we know that they LOVE them too! They did an amazing job on the day to get the best out of their shoot - they considered carefully what to wear, and it was the perfect choice for their summer vibe, and they approached all our guidance and gentle cues with a great ‘give-it-a-go’ attitude. We can’t wait for the wedding!!!

BEHIND THE SCENES…

Getting back out to shoot after lockdown felt fabulous - and out in the open fresh air meant that thankfully no face masks were necessary during our shoot, though we were careful to ensure we kept our distance from each other (note that the effect of lens compression can sometimes make people appear closer than they really are).

The two of us work together closely on a photoshoot (and of course when we’re photographing weddings!) to ensure we’re each using our strengths so that couples get the best results. We’ll give gentle direction and do our very best to help our couples relax into their shoot. A pre-wedding photoshoot really is a great way to add some fun and romance into the wedding planning journey and create some amazing photographs that you’ll keep forever.
